Physio is changing…

What are peoples expectations and previous experiences when they go to see a Physiotherapist in 2022? When we consider the variation in location/facilities/practitioners/beliefs/biases it is almost impossible to sum up just what a visit to physio entails and when it is required.

What are peoples expectations and previous experiences when they go to see a Physiotherapist in 2022?

When we consider the variation in location/facilities/practitioners/beliefs/biases it is almost impossible to sum up just what a visit to physio entails and when it is required.

The physio team we have assembled here at R4P have at various moments in their career worked in the NHS, private practice and in professional sport.

We have also experienced working and lecturing in different countries and realised that whilst there is common ground in our scope of practice there is also a huge variation in what is typically delivered by a physiotherapist versus what would instead be delivered by our colleagues in Sports Medicine, Soft tissue therapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic and Strength & Conditioning.

In terms of a physiotherapist skill set what is it that we do? Is it Diagnosis? Assessment? Prognosis? Massage? Manual Therapy? Rehabilitation? is it all of these things, a combination of them, or none of them?

And where will these services be delivered? In a treatment room? A Gym? A running track? A spare room??!?

According to the CSP website

“Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle.

At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment”

…and this isn’t a bad place to start to describe what an R4P Physiotherapy experience will be.

At R4P the basis of our service is the experience and knowledge of our practitioners and a scientifically underpinned approach with our links into academia.

Back to the day to day stuff…and how we take that knowledge and apply it to our everyday practice.

An initial assessment will include a detailed assessment in the form of both a deep dive into the condition you are presenting with and a thorough medical history.

It will include a physical assessment which will take place in both the treatment room and/or in the gym/rehab space depending on the nature of the condition.

We will use the latest technology to gain appropriate information in terms of your strength and how you move.

We will put together a full report which includes diagnosis/prognosis and the steps which will be needed to make a full recovery be these in the form of treatment / gym based work or via further interventions from appropriate medical / healthcare or consultant specialists.

Your recovery will start on day one.

So when we say Physio is changing, what we mean is the standard is improving.

Experiencing Physiotherapy at R4P isn’t about a quick chat and a lie down on a treatment bed to be fixed.

It’s about giving you access to outstanding clinicians and facilities whose expertise is in assessing and understanding your condition or injury and putting together a complete package of recovery with you at the centre.

A package of care which includes all elements along the injury-rehab-Performance continuum whatever your end goal may be.

An experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy service is best placed to provide all elements of assessment / hands on treatment / pain management / gym based exercise rehabilitation and total injury recovery.

And through our experience of the 10’s of 1000’s of people we have treated through the years (from all over the world) we have a deep understanding that the recovery of any issue goes far beyond the physical complaint and is absolutely a journey of psychological recovery with the human being at the centre of it.

Physio has changed – for the better…come and experience it at R4P”
